Despite the continued challenges caused by the pandemic, 2021 has been an excellent year. More children have been rescued. Our students are thriving in school. Many lives have been saved because of the healthcare provided by our medical team. More than 100 healthy babies have been born in our medical clinic. And we have seen hundreds of children responding to the good news of Jesus!
INTRODUCING ALICE
I had the joy of visiting City of Hope recently and meeting the children that we serve. One of them was 11-year-old Alice.
Alice* has a beautiful, radiant smile. Yet her life has included great tragedy and pain. Growing up in extreme poverty, Alice was abandoned by her father. He left home one day, never to return. At first, Alice’s mother tried to find employment and provide food and shelter for her family, but soon she also disappeared without a trace. In desperation, Alice’s older sister began working at a local bar - highly dangerous employment for a young girl. This small, broken family lived in constant, overwhelming fear.
Then came rescue. Earlier this year, our staff at City of Hope found out about this tragic situation and stepped in to help. Today, Alice, along with her two siblings, are safe. But rescue and protection are just the beginning of the journey. We are seeing God work to redeem the darkness and emptiness in Alice’s life as she receives love, counseling, medical care, education, and the good news of the Gospel. Her hope story is just beginning!
Alice’s story reflects that of many of our kids. The children we care for need rescue from exploitation, hunger, neglect, traumatic violence, and abuse. They need to know that they have hope and that there are people committed to them.
That’s where you come in.
Hurting children like Alice need champions like you who will help provide them with nourishing food, an outstanding education, safety, and the truth about a God who loves and cherishes them. The need in East Africa is growing as the pandemic wreaks hardship and suffering. And, with your continued help, we can respond.
