October 2026 Impact Report
At Hilda’s Legacy House, HopeCo’s safe house in Kenya, everyday care includes opportunities for children to learn, build confidence, and enjoy being children. Recently, that meant making a birthday cake from scratch—with every child having a part to play.
From the First Scoop to the
Last Sprinkle
The children measured ingredients, mixed the batter, and helped prepare and decorate the cake. Every job counted, from the first scoop to the last colorful sprinkle.
Along the way, they practiced following steps, measuring carefully, and keeping things clean. They also had to be patient—a cake takes time!
A Picnic on the Floor
Once the cake was ready, a bright blanket on the floor became the party table. Biscuits, sweets, popcorn, colorful gummy rings, and juice surrounded the cake, which took its place in the middle. Party hats completed the celebration.
Then came a moment that brought laughter to the room: one child lifted a forkful of cake to another for a taste. And of course, the best part of making a birthday cake was getting to eat it together!
Small Moments That Help Children Grow
Making the cake gave each child a way to contribute. They worked side by side, tried new skills, and saw what they could accomplish together. The celebration gave them time to enjoy those efforts—and to simply have fun with their friends.
Experiences like these are part of helping children grow in confidence and feel a sense of belonging. Alongside daily care, there is room to try something new, express creativity, and make happy memories.
Your support helps make these everyday moments possible. Thank you for helping Hilda’s Legacy House be a place where children feel safe and cared for, with room for laughter, celebration, and the simple joys of childhood.
