Child Poverty: HopeCo’s Prevention and Intervention in East Africa

“The legacy of child poverty can last a lifetime.” – UNICEF

This young girl* is the seventh of nine siblings who live in Machakos County, Kenya. She lives in a child-headed home with the oldest sister filling the parental role – since their father and mother abandoned them.

When our Family Empowerment Center heard of their plight, we immediately reached out to this family – and continue to provide nutritious meals, make sure they are going to school, support them with counseling and prayer, give them a safe place to spend time with friends, and much more.

This is what HopeCo does! And your prayers and gifts make a big difference in the lives of more vulnerable children, like this young girl, every day.

And, because you are vested in the same vision and mission that our late founder, Dr. John Chacha, launched in 2009 in Tanzania, I want to share an urgent opportunity with you vital to rescuing and caring for more vulnerable children in East Africa.

As the CEO of HopeCo, I am a dedicated advocate for vulnerable children and families trapped in extreme poverty. I have witnessed firsthand the role our organization plays in intervention by rescuing and empowering individuals in underserved communities and by preventing unthinkable harm and breaking cycles of poverty. Now you have another opportunity to play a major role in advancing Dr. Chacha’s vision and mission.

It’s your partnership that enables our staff to work tirelessly safeguarding children and women from harmful practices, addressing medical crises that can devastate families, and educating children to become productive, godly individuals who uplift their communities.

HopeCo embraces both intervention and prevention. And your generous gift today to help continue the vision and mission of HopeCo through:

  • EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS | Breaking the cycle of poverty by providing children access to quality education and offering vocational training/university opportunities to high school graduates

  • PREVENTIVE HEALTH INITIATIVES FOR FAMILIES | Expand our medical center services to offer preventive care to more families

  • WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS | Sustaining the 45+ young women (in our three locations) receiving marketable skill training to create sustainable livelihoods, and expanding our impact with a fourth location for another 15 women

Your gift helps us rescue more children from tragic circumstances and also build a brighter future where every child has the opportunity to thrive and every family can live in dignity and peace.

I invite you to partner with us in this vital mission by giving securely online at JoinHopeCo.com/2025Legacy

Thank you for prayerfully considering this opportunity to make a profound difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families in East Africa.

Gratefully yours,
